The Steam version of Guild Wars 2 has been put on hold indefinitely, ArenaNet recently announced. The studio is instead focusing entirely on its next expansion, Guild Wars 2: End of Dragons.

Honestly, the fact that you can’t use your existing account to log into the Steam version (and vice-versa) makes it weird that they’re even bothering with a Steam version this late into the game’s life. I know FFXIV is similar, in that if your game license is through Steam, you have to use the Steam-based client, but at least if you buy a license for another platform (PS4, non-Steam) you can use the same login and have access to everything. IE, it’s one account, but different platform licenses. GW2 sounds like they’re not even compatible at all, despite all accounts connecting to the same servers (since they can play together)
