Overwatch‘s New Animated Short Explores Hanzo And Genji’s Tragic Rivalry

Overwatch’s series of excellent animated shorts just got another entry. The stars this time? Samurai arrow-slinger Hanzo and cyborg ninja everything-blocker Genji. Here’s the short: Here’s Blizzard’s description of it: “‘Dragons’ explores the history of conflict between the scions of the Shimada clan: Hanzo and Genji. In this episode, we follow Hanzo as he returns…

Blizzard: Sometimes Those Overwatch Players You Think Are Cheating Are ‘Just Really Good’

The beta period for Blizzard’s team-based shooter, Overwatch, has ended, with the game formally launching on May 24. In the meantime, they’ve released guidelines on how they’re going to handle cheating, including a warning warning about the game’s best players. Though Blizzard themselves will be monitoring for cheaters in Overwatch, the community is encouraged to…

Damn, This Korean Dude Is Good at Overwatch

In places, it’s hard enough trying to keep up just watching this play through. Imagine going against it. Via tipster Sang and r/Overwatch, here’s popular Team Fortress 2 pro “Pine” showing what he can do in Blizzard’s Overwatch as Widowmaker. He can do a lot. And very, very quickly. Man. And this is only the…

When An Entrance In Overwatch Goes Wrong

Poor Zenyatta. He had a whole match ahead of him, but Roadhog said no. Never meditate right in front of the entrance. via standardissue

Overwatch Player Obliterates Enemy With Basketball Trap

If you’ve been playing Overwatch’s beta, you’re probably familiar with basketballs in starter areas. Usually people just shoot at them until the match starts, and then they’re left behind, forlorn and forgotten. A couple players, though, figured out how to weaponize them. Puppy :U and his cohort realized that you can attach Junkrat’s steel trap and…

Watch Us Play The Overwatch Beta

We’re having some fun in the Overwatch beta for Ps4 over on Facebook. Check it out here.

Thanks. I don’t usually use sprays in multiplayer shooters, but now, thanks to Overwatch player kharnna, I finally understand the appeal. Here’s the full clip:

Some Great Plays From Overwatch‘s Open Beta

Overwatch’s open beta has been running for a day, and even then, this is only the early access portion of the show. Still, there’s been an unusually high concentration of excellent moments. First, here’s Harumiura with a textbook example of how to use Reinhardt. Set ‘em up, knock ‘em down. Really, really far down: Next,…

Overwatch Won’t Launch With Competitive Mode

Toward the end of its closed beta, Overwatch got an update that included ranked play and seasons. For some, it was the final piece of the puzzle, the competitive aspect that’d keep them coming back. Blizzard, however, is revamping it. Overwatch game director Jeff Kaplan explained in a forum post: “We worked extremely hard to…

One Overwatch Character Has Been Around For More Than A Decade

Overwatch was announced at BlizzCon in 2014. It rose from the ashes of a longtime Blizzard MMO project called Titan, which had been in development for years and years only to meet the reaping scythe of cancellation. But Overwatch character Soldier 76 even predates that. Soldier 76 is Overwatch’s trusty Shoot Man. He’s a gruff…

Overwatch Ford F650 Supertruck Hits A Car At PAX East

Blizzard’s cross-promotion between Overwatch and Uber for PAX East ran into problems last night, when Soldier: 76’s Ford F650 Supertruck took out the side of a passenger vehicle. Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford was on the scene. Of all the people to stumble upon an Overwatch car accident. Randy Pitchford was exiting the main theater of…

Overwatch Player Is A Wall Riding Fiend

Rollerblading healer hero Lucio is one of my favorite characters to play in Overwatch. The simple act of skating around feels great, especially when you’re riding walls like gravity’s just another rail ripe for grinding. This guy, though, he’s turned it into an art form. Jamie Allegro sticks to walls like goddamn Spider-Man. Watch him…

A valiant Overwatch sacrifice. In this clip from silvert0rch, a Reinhardt player valiantly takes one for the team by charging a self-destructing D.Va mech and shoving it away from his allies. I will name the hammer in the toolbox under my kitchen sink after you, brave sir. Here’s the full thing:

Turns Out, You Can Counter Hanzo’s Ultimate In Overwatch

Overwatch is a game about interplay between many different heroes, some of whom represent entirely different subgenres of FPS. Despite the potential for unbalanced chaos, it all clicks. The reason? Details like this one. I’ve logged quite a few hours in Overwatch’s closed beta at this point, and until today, even I didn’t know about…

The Overwatch Beta Ends Next Week

Overwatch’s closed beta has been quite a ride. Between changes for the better, clever player strategies, and butts, it’s gotten everybody talking (or making entire games about how they’re missing out) on multiple occasions. Next week, it’s coming to a close. Blizzard just announced that Overwatch’s long-running closed beta will conclude on April 25. The…

Overwatch‘s Silliest New Strategy: Kill Rooms

Whether you’re an itsy bitsy baby Overwatch player or that Junkrat who keeps using his exploding tire to hunt me and only me (I WILL FIND YOUR HOME), you’ll fare about the same against a room plastered with death lasers: poorly. Popular Team Fortress 2 YouTuber Muselk has been branching out into Overwatch’s beta recently,…

That’s One Way To Play Overwatch

Blizzard’s shooter isn’t even out, yet some folks already found ways to play the game absolutely unintended ways. Instead of chasing each other on the map, these players have set up a silly orb deflecting mini-game. It’s a reminder of Team Fortress 2 days and Pyro Airblasts. Symmetra is firing her orb to the ninja…
