We got the 'Shop Contest back on the track last week thanks to Nintendo of America honcho Reggie Fils-Aime and a life-size Luigi bumble-bee kart. Cygnus_Mal chucked the spiny shell at 19 other contestants, so he finishes first! The usual gallery of lunacy awaits inside!
aardvarkattack (2)catches Reggie stuck in morning traffic on I-5. lemonmanlemonman (8)walks a fine line between tastelessness and hilarity, but stays on the right side with me. A gold star goes to kolibri (9) for giving Reggie some Hoff-tastic cheeks and jaw. And who wouldn't give a thumbs up if they had co-workers like these? (clumsyninja, #5).
I was surprised there weren't more monster-truck entries. Psykofaze (15) did the best job. Surprised there werent more Mad Max entries, either; SphessMahreen (16) turned in another inspired 'Shop. thedrofevil (19) lived up to his name by getting that awful, awful song stuck in my head.
Pairings with Nintendo rivals were a strong theme; pan1da7 (14) and Stuart.C (18), with a call back to an earlier contest, get a nod for their efforts. LucerinRed (11) also called back, to Splash Mountain. That exploitable never gets old.
Overall winners? It really came down to two. chamoo232 (4) provided a shop with a simple but winning visual punchline. I think that's the first time Reggie's been in the same image with Borat and the Fonz, much less said in the same sentence. But Cygnus_Mal delivered the Best Shop ... in the World! with Jeremy Clarkson gobbling up big air.
It was close, but as Richard Petty (and iconoclast24, No. 7) reminds us, "Give 'em a wreck at the end and they'll bring a friend." Thanks to all who entered. We'll have a new contest tomorrow.
