In the summer of 1985, my friend Craig and I would break into his next door neighbor's home, sneak into their teenage daughter's bedroom, riffle her things to find Eddie Murphy: Comedian on cassette and then play it on a boom box on the floor, one of us posted by the window for anyone coming up the driveway. We would all be charged with sex crimes today. We went to that trouble because being able to quote Comedian at recess, was an unimpeachable credential of middle-school awesomeness.
