After a long and mystery-filled wait, the 30th anniversary Pokémon Trading Card Game set is officially in stores today. Well, for a fleeting moment, at least. Scalpers and legitimate fans alike have scurried to their local shops to grab whatever packs they can in hopes of finding the rarest pulls. A set of three Mew cards, however, is the real chase this time. What fans initially thought might be an elaborate hoax has turned out to be some of the rarest cards in the game. Now, collectors are already testing the waters to see how much people are willing to pay for the cards, and it turns out the answer is “a whole lot.”
Early eBay listings for the “RGB” Mew cards, which feature art that looks like a photo negative, start at four figures, and only go up from there. Some have already sold for astronomical prices, with at least one confirmed sale of just the blue variant alone for over $20,000.

If that sounds ridiculous to you, don’t worry, some sellers are trying to get people to cough up as much as $150k, though I sincerely hope no one pays that much. Some listings include all three cards for significantly less, so like frothy marketplace, it’ll be a bit before we get a sense of what the long-term resale prices will be.
Right now, a lot of these insane listings are banking on launch week hype, so it’s possible they could drop substantially in the coming weeks and months. If for some reason you’re thinking about remortgaging your house to buy one of these cards, maybe wait at least 48 hours first.
At the moment, we don’t know the exact pull rate of these Mew cards, though some are speculating that, if they’re as rare as they supposedly are, they might have just a 1-in-20,000 chance of appearing in any single booster pack. Pokémon Trading Card Game Live players have gone looking through the app’s code, where the card seems to have a one-in-10,000 rate, but it’s unclear if that’s also representative of how rare the actual cards in the physical 30th anniversary packs will be.
