At more than 6,000 names, all of which must be manually entered, custom rosters for NCAA Football is annually one of the biggest community projects in sports gaming. Accurately named files were available yesterday—the day of release—for both the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions.
The files are accessible by going to the Team Management menu item, selecting Roster Share, then Download Roster, and then hit A/X for Download Roster again. At the prompt, enter one of these tags.
• (for 360) Patrick Morty
• (for PS3) gamingtailgate
As a bonus, all of the rosters also contain the accurate coach names for each school—the head coach, offensive coordinator, and defensive coordinator.
Looking through it, embattled Ohio State quarterback Terrelle Pryor has been removed from the Buckeyes' lineup, and Russell Wilson (above) is now quarterback for Wisconsin instead of N.C. State. Both players' movements came after EA Sports finalized the roster that ships on the disc.
Refinements for greater accuracy are expected in the coming week. Names to know there are Fairdale Kings and Operation Sports; FK's file usually gets announced there first. It was out five days after release last year.
But for many, these are good enough to get a realistic dynasty started. They also transfer to online multiplayer.
Update: A rush to grab the Patrick Morty rosters on 360 last night resulted in hangups for some; if that happens to you, a good alternate gamertag to try for the Xbox 360 version is pastapadre.
