It’s amazing how much film, literature, comics, toys and video games overlap these days. That’s one of the reasons I think it’s a tremendous disservice to wear pop-culture blinders when writing about gaming. Sometimes I think it’s great to step outside the bounds of pure video games to write about Auteur theory and how it applies to gaming, or talk about cognitive dissonance or even White Dog. You can see echoes of gaming in all of those things.
In the end it makes us all more well-rounded people, culturally speaking, and what’s the downside? A story someone might decide to not read. I can live with that.
