Minecraft Creator Already Working on Achievements; but First, Wolves

Minecraft's creator revealed on Friday that he's working on an achievement system for the PC gaming obsession. He didn't specify when that will be implemented, but he did say something new's coming in the game's next update: Wolves.

Wolves will be a new mob within the game, Markus "Notch" Persson said. "You can tame it and order it to follow you around, and it'll work as a pet. They're fairly rare, but they won't despawn once you've tamed them."

He uploaded that video, which shows wolves as more adorable than ferocious. Wonder if this took any inspiration from Okamiden's release last week?

As for achievements, Persson had said before that he'd considered the idea for a while. He's now working on it. "We've got a couple of people in the office who don't like achievements in games at all, so the goal is to design something that they're fine with," he writes.

Right now, "Achievements will NOT be chores like 'cut down 10000 trees', but rather challenges like 'ride a pig off a cliff.'" There will be a statistics system that keeps track of how much work you've done, such as cutting down trees. But Persson acknowledges that because users may design their own levels and run their own servers, achievements and stats will invariably be subject to cheating.

Is there a chance of Minecraft going over to XBOX Live? I love this game but I just don't feel that comfortable playing it on my chair using keyboard and mouse. Just my opinion, don't bring up that "keyboard and mouse FTW" fanboyism shit.
