Maybe LEGO Avengers Can Live Up To LEGO Marvel Super Heroes After All

I was a little worried about how a LEGO game mainly based on the Avengers film franchise would compare to the captivating open-world exploration of LEGO Marvel Super Heroes. Looks like I worried over nothing—LEGO Avengers has all of that and more.

According to the official press release accompanying this latest trailer, LEGo New York is bigger and better than before, allowing players to “hyper jump off skyscrapers with Hulk, use Quicksilver to speed run over water or even play as giant characters like the menacing Fing Fang Foom who can grow to the size of buildings.” These are all things that sell me on this game much better than it being based on a bunch of movies.

Not only will January’s LEGO Marvel’s Avengers feature a massive New York City to romp about in, it’s also got seven more open world and free roam areas to tool about in, including:

  • Asgard: Explore the boring world of boring people as you’ve never been bored before, verily! I bet there’ll be funny hats.
  • Barton Farm: For all of those fans who felt the superheroes on a farm portion of Age of Ultron was over much too soon.
  • Malibu: Home of Tony Stark’s ridiculous home. I’m glad it’s dead.
  • S.H.I.E.L.D. Base Exterior: A location ripped from the “Opening: S.H.I.E.L.D. Base Exterior” portion of the Avengers script.
  • Sokovia: World famous home of Civil War-causing accords. A very upliftng location, if you know what I mean. Because it was lifted up. Get it? Too soon?
  • South Africa: The Avengers go back in time to help end apartheid! (Checks trailer again) Or it’s just the part with the rusty ships.
  • Washington, D.C.: The reason Philadelphia’s secret city motto is “America’s First Choice.” Not home to the Liberty Bell or a statue of Rocky. Pity.

LEGO Marvel’s Avengers arrives on every non-mobile gaming platform on January 26.

Now if only someone would make a non-LEGO version of a Marvel game like this.
