On seas awash with the wreckage of lesser online multiplayer shooters, Marvel Rivals has managed to not only stay afloat but maintain some momentum following its big free-to-play launch earlier this month. However, the live-service game is still missing one very big feature: cross-progression.
While Fornite, Apex Legends, Overwatch 2, and other popular multiplayer shooters let you carry data between accounts on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, Marvel Rivals launched without that perk despite still having cross-play between platforms. The developers at NetEase Games havenât forgotten, and say theyâre working on getting account migration up and running as soon as possible.
âCross-progression involves a lot of platform-specific rules, weâre still looking at it and how to solve it,â creative director Guangyun âGuangguangâ Chen recently told Dot Esports. âOnce the team is ready, once weâve figured it out, weâll be sharing to everyone and players will be the first to know.â

The developer didnât mention a specific timeline, so cross-progression might not arrive until sometime next month or even much farther down the road. It took years for games that didnât launch with cross-progression like Destiny 2, Warframe, and Final Fantasy XIV to finally get it, while games released more recently have often prioritized it at launch or soon after as part of the current platform-hopping landscape.
In the meantime, Marvel Rivals is getting a Splatoon-like mode as part of its new winter update. The hero shooter is currently still in season 0âMarvel Rivalsâ season 1 wonât go live until mid-January, likely alongside new characters and other fresh content. Maybe thatâs when cross-progression will arrive as well?
