Todayās Disney & Marvel Games Showcase officially revealed Amy Hennigās latest unnamed game: a war thriller staring Black Panther and Captain America.
We still donāt know much about the former Uncharted writerās latest project other than that itās set in World War II and will likely feature a mix of grim battlefields and stealth espionage. A stylish trailer sporting old-timey music shows a few clues about what the gameās story might be about, and ends with a quick glimpse of the King of Wakanda himself:
The camera pans over a reference to Hydra, Marvelās generation-spanning paramilitary terrorist organization, and eventually settles on an image of Black Panther and Captain America. The first is flanked by a soldier and the Eiffel Tower, while the second is next to a Wakandan warrior and a seeming image of that nationās capital. So far, though, we still donāt know the gameās official title or a projected release date.
Original story follows.
Hennigās latest studio, Skydance New Media, was revealed to be working on a Marvel project back in October 2021, when it was announced as a ānarrative-driven, blockbuster action-adventure game, featuring a completely original story and take on the Marvel universe.ā So, Uncharted with superheroes?
This new rumor suggests more specifics will be revealed today, including that it stars fan-favorite Marvel heroes Cap America and Black Panther, who will āface off against the forces of Hydra.ā

This certainly tracks with Hennigās press release enthusiasm last year, when she said the project would let her explore, āthe action, mystery, and thrills of the pulp adventure genre that I adore.ā (Emphasis ours.) Hennig, of course, was the creative director on the first three Uncharted games, as well as story writer for the Legacy of Kain series, and unforgettably the designer for 1994’s Michael Jordan: Chaos in the Windy City.
If true, itāll be absolutely fascinating to see how the game handles its alternative history view of the Second World War, especially given how far more sensitive people are to such depictions now, than say, when Indiana Jones was looting his way through Nazi war-crimes. Plus, Cap and TāChalla is an epic team-up, and immediately sets us back into the Silver Age of Marvelās comics.
This rumor is backed up by Eurogamer, which means itās what we in the business call āsourced.ā We wonāt have to wait long to see if it proves accurate. Weāll obviously bring you news about this, and everything else revealed during the Disney/Marvel stream, later today.
The setting would be an interesting diversion from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as that whole beast wraps up its fourth phase with this yearās Black Panther sequel, Wakanda Forever. Phase 5 kicks off next year with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, as well as establishing Sam Wilson as the new Captain America in 2024, but that continues onward through the post-blip, multiverse-invaded present. A completely separate timeline, with TāChalla alive in the 1940s, will be a pleasant change.
Update: 9/9/2022, 4:43 p.m. ET: Added more information from the official reveal during the D23 conferenceās video game showcase.
