Up Close, 3D Minecraft Art Gets Pretty Freaky

The above gif progresses as follows: Minecraft 3D art as it’s meant to be viewed, as a 2D-ish render; Minecraft 3D art in-game; Minecraft 3D art in-game, but closer. It’s quite the transformation. The build, made by Tober888 of the MysticAbsents group, is a riff on Roy Lichtenstein’s famous Pop Art piece, the Drowning Girl.…

Yep, it’s fall! The leaves are starting to turn in Osaka. Thank the maples for some of fall’s most beautiful colors—and yummy snacks. The Japanese maple is called “momiji” (もみじ), and Minoo City is famous for its momiji tempura. Minoo is known for its Japanese maples. Check out the city’s manhole cover. [Photo: churateada] So…

We notice the big changes. When characters look quite different or the animation isn’t up to snuff. What about the more subtle ones? We notice those less, but they offer an interesting peek at how animators bring their own style to a work. Over on 2ch, a recent thread featured a series of comparison images…

Here’s what the costume—which took “many hundreds of hours…

A Great New Captain America Is Showing Up in Spider-Gwen

The series where Gwen Stacy is the superhero swinging around Manhattan beating up bad guys is a fan-favorite twist on the Spider-Man mythos. Kotaku ‘Shop Contest: Cloud-Based Gaming: Winners!

The announcement ofFinal Fantasy VII’s Cloud for Super Smash Bros.got us thinking about which other games he could be in, which led to a Photoshop contest, which led to hilarity. Our image manipulating readers sure make judging contests like this difficult, especially when the people entering know my penchant for animated Persona dancing GIFs. In…

The Xbox 360 Is Ten Years Old Today

A decade ago today thousands of people stood outside electronics retailers in the bitter cold, waiting for their chance to sell an Xbox 360 on eBay. I blame those killer faceplates. I remember the Xbox 360 launch like it was yesterday, because in the grand scheme of things it was. I wasn’t going to get…
