We have five dual finalists in this week's roundup of the Kotaku 'Shop Contest, which asked for recognizable mashups of G.I. Joe with video games. Luckily, we have 19 overall candidates, which ejected from an airplane at the last minute, or weren't shot by grossly inaccurate lazer fire from an M16, or managed to survive both a burning house and Barbecue's lecture on fire safety afterward. Now we know!
You'll notice lots of incumbents in the roundup, including toolsoldier (17), who misidentifies G.I. Joe's manufacturer but I don't want to go all Comic Book Guy on him here and besides, his isn't the worst 'Shop ever. uscg_pa (18 and 19) gets on the board with two entries, the best being the Cobra minifigs in Lego Star Wars.
Belly laughs included Angryrider (1) with a superb take on Tomax and Xamot as the Bad Dudes. Blueberry Dookie (2 and 3) likewise got a chuckle because of his comment handle, and putting William the Refrigerator Perry on the cover of a putative Madden NFL 85. Howard C's Assassin's Creed Cobra Commander is one of the few instances, in nearly three years of the 'Shop Contest, where adding text to a 'Shop made the joke funnier. Congratulations.
Nude_Eskimo (10 and 11) and Pan_1da7 (12 and 13) both had dual entries, with Eskimo's best being the Heavy Rain spoof, and Pan_1da bringing the W.H.A.L.E. to Sleeping Dogs. W.H.A.L.E. and the AT-AT were the childhood toys I never received, giving me a lifetime of daddy issues. Thanks Kenner and Hasbro.
But the overall no. 1 goes to Snufkin. He repeatedly remade his take on a B.A.T.S. Samus (15), but that wasn't the 'Shop that got my attention. It was his suitable-for-framing family photo of awesome video game Joes (16), perfect for your desktop. Can you identify every one in the lineup?
Thanks again to all who participated. New 'Shop Contest tomorrow.
