As we mentioned an hour ago, Joey Chiu, the first customer to buy a PlayStation 4 on launch day, is our celebrity guest judge of this week's 'Shop Contest. We had a swarm of fantastic entries—more than 30 in all—plus overall No. 1 SupremeEvan!
Following are the Top Five, as selected by Joey himself, with his comments on each entry, plus more than 25 honorable mentions. Enjoy!
Fun fact: I never got a Nintendo 64. I wanted one so much that it was the catalyst of my downward spiral in academic achievement, and I still never got one. Instead, we'd play PlayStation at my uncle's place nearby and the rest is history. Imagine how the world might have changed if I had gotten that N64 so many years ago... Nah, nothing would have happened.
Shout-out to Hanoi who was first in line for the Xbox One launch this week! It's weird seeing Don Mattrick there in the corner given how he's not with Microsoft anymore.
The giant brick just looks silly, but it's the subtle change up top to the right in the ticker that makes you slap your forehead and go "OHH!" My sympathies go out to everybody that bought a problematic unit. My PS4 has only frozen once when I used Amazon Instant Video, but otherwise things have been pretty good so far. Knock on wood.
I wonder how well-known it is to the general public that Sony caters their video game events. At least, that's the only type of Sony event that I've ever been to. EIGHT GIGABYTES OF GDDR HAM, or something.
EVERYBODY WAS ME!!! EVERYBODY WAS FIRST IN LINE TO GET A PS4!!!!! At the end of the day, it's still super-weird that I'm stopped during a train ride and somebody recognizes me from the PS4 launch. I'm just a dude who bought a thing that happened to be put on TV, and now I just finished judging a Photoshop contest with my face plastered all over it.
I'm sure Younger Me, all ages, would be laughing at me right now. Not with me. ':3
And now for the best of the rest ...
