DISCUSSION

I'm officially going to be "that guy."

If the winner was chosen based on community votes—shame on the community.

Owen, if you chose the winner by hand—I must ask, why?

There are many, many entries in the "finalist" pool that are infinitely more clever, witty, and appropriately referential than the "winning" post was. The winning post has two slender women in bikinis and a Cup Noodle image; that's not impressive, witty, or a damn sight near what many of the other submissions managed—and I say that as a heterosexual male. I like an attractive woman as much as the next heterosexual man does—but damn, man. This is beyond pandering—this is straight-out objectification.

For a publication that does its best (no, really, Kotaku does a good job of giving voice to all members of the gaming community—for the most part) to be even-handed in its treatment of the various walks of life from which "gamers" hail, this is ridiculously stereotypical—and its emblematic of why mass media uses us as a bloody dart board when problems arise.
