We’ve shared two songs from Girls’ Generation before, and if you’re internally complaining that I seem to have a bias, you’re god damn right I do.
Into The New World, Girls’ Generation’s 2007 debut song, is hopeful, uplifting, and just a little bit naïve—everything the group sought to symbolize as the next wave of girl groups.
While the music video is dated, and the instrumental seems a little simplistic compared to modern releases, the song’s overall cheerful sensibility and unfettered optimism hasn’t dulled, even more than a decade later. (Am I really that old??)
It’s also fitting that I’m sharing this song today, as it just happens to be my birthday; Into The New World’s lyrics have always inspired me to push harder, learn from my mistakes and listen to my heart—and while that might sound sappy, this song has been my totem for a third of my life now. That’s not about to change anytime soon.
