About Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge is a vintage game full of action and adventure inspired by a classic video game from the Ninja Turtles universe: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time. It was released in 1991 by Konami. It was a side-scrolling platformer that followed the storyline of the 1987 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles animated series. Turtles in Time is considered by die-hard fans to be the best Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles video game. Developed by Dotemu, Tribute Games, and Nickelodeon, Shredder’s Revenge features stunning pixel-art environments, acrobatic ninja gameplay, and highly precise controls, and aims to be a worthy successor to Turtles in Time.
In this beat 'em up game reminiscent of the genre’s classics, you play as one of the four Ninja Turtles (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, or TMNT for short), each with their own unique abilities. You’ll have to fight your way through numerous levels to stop Shredder and Krang from taking over the world. The game features a 2D side-scrolling environment with pixelated graphics.
With character upgrades, new skills, hidden levels, and branching paths to discover, there’s always something new to find. The 8- and 16-bit sprites, animations, and backgrounds are meticulously designed in the spirit of the classics, and you’ll love the memorable cast of villains, bosses, and quirky sidekicks. Plus, the original soundtrack perfectly complements your battles.
Why Should I Play Shredder's Revenge?
Shredder's Revenge is a side-scrolling action game with gameplay similar to that of the classic Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles games on the NES. You control one of the four Turtles: Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello, or Raphael. Each turtle has its own unique characteristics and specific weapons, just like in the cartoon.
You’ll also encounter the Turtles’ usual allies, such as April, Master Splinter, and Casey Jones, as well as their old enemies: Bebop, Rocksteady, Shredder, and Krang. As always, the latter two are plotting to take over New York—and eventually the whole world (while they’re at it). To that end, they’ve come up with nothing better to do than announce to the world that they intend to seize the Statue of Liberty.
Just like in Turtles in Time (which we’ve already mentioned, and in which the Statue of Liberty was stolen), the Ninja Turtles will have to travel back in time to battle their enemies in different eras to restore the normal timeline. Players will enjoy exploring a wide variety of environments, such as Central Park, Manhattan, museums, and shopping malls, as well as engaging in high-speed chases on skateboards or hoverboards, and more.
The game also features an original soundtrack composed by Tee Lopes, who drew heavily on the soundtrack from Turtles in Time. With its blend of modern gameplay and nostalgic 8- and 16-bit visuals, Shredder’s Revenge is sure to appeal to fans of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise.
In terms of gameplay, Shredder’s Revenge follows in the footsteps of its predecessors. You’ll control one of the four turtles or one of their three allies (April, Splinter, or Casey) through various combat stages. The game features 16 fast-paced levels that will keep you on your toes. For die-hard fans, note that the map is modeled after the one in Turtles in Time for the original Nintendo console.
As we’ve already mentioned, each character has their own unique abilities in terms of speed, power, and attack range. This allows every player to find the character that suits them best. Of course, you’ll have access to standard attacks, as well as the famous combos that are the strength and joy of playing this type of game. To spice things up a bit, keep in mind that street furniture or objects around you can become new weapons or projectiles at any moment. And don’t hesitate to eat some pizza!
