Cyberpunk: Edgerunners was a popular beginner’s entry point into the sci-fi RPG franchise for a lot of folks when the anime premiered on Netflix back in 2022, but for fans who knew where to look, it had more than a few nods and references to Cyberpunk 2077. The second season is now on its way, and fans have already started to find areas shown in the first trailer inside CD Projekt Red’s sprawling open-world game. .
Twitter user K_a_l_e_n_k_o has been going through the trailer and recreating shots from the upcoming anime season inside Cyberpunk 2077. Like it was in the first season, Studio Trigger’s animated version of Night City is game-accurate down to very small details, so much so that K_a_l_e_n_k_o has been able to use the game’s photo mode to capture scenes that are nearly identical to shots seen in the trailer.

It’s really impressive to see the game and show side-by-side, both in the way it shows how Studio Trigger really put care into maintaining the visual identity of Night City, and in how K_a_l_e_n_k_o was able to find each of these areas and get so many frame-perfect shots of different areas around the dystopian California metropolis. I’m looking forward to the eventual season-long breakdown someone makes when the show premieres on Netflix later this fall.
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners’ second season will focus on a new cast of characters, which isn’t too surprising considering what happened to the previous group at the end of season one. Though I wouldn’t be surprised if the show references David and Lucy’s story in one way or another. After the show came out, CD Projekt Red patched nods to the characters into Cyberpunk 2077, so their legacy lives on in Night City, even after the ending of the first season.
