Fifteen years ago this month, Eidos introduced to a sexy new video game heroine by the name of Lara Croft. Crystal Dynamics celebrates the 15th anniversary of Tomb Raider with a month-long digital art exhibition inspired by the upcoming series reboot.
Lara Croft has come a long way in the past decade and a half, from a primitive polygon girl with unrealistic breasts to the sort of person you might see walking down the street, if your street allowed women to carry pistols strapped to their hips.
Next fall Lara changes once more as the new Tomb Raider game shifts focus to a younger, more vulnerable Lara Croft. The kind of Lara Croft that's always covered in dirt, scrapes, and bruises. That's the focus of the Tomb Raider 15th anniversary art exhibit — battered Lara Croft.
The exhibit gathers together work from eight different artists, some new to the character and some Tomb Raider vets. Starting with Tomb Raider comic book alum Andy Park's piece (seen above), new works will debut every Monday and Friday in October, culminating with a piece by the series' creator Toby Gard.
"This is the perfect opportunity to celebrate Tomb Raider's history by looking at Lara's promising future," said Karl Stewart, global brand director, Crystal Dynamics. "We can't wait to share each artist's unique interpretation of what it means to be Lara Croft."
