The site MMAjunkie reports that mixed martial arts promoter Strikeforce has booked the Nokia Theatre for an event June 16, across the street from the L.A. Convention Center and smack dab in the middle of the E3 Expo.
Strikeforce is the licensing partner of EA Sports MMA, due out in the fall; all the fighters on the June 16 card except one are playable within that game, MMAjunkie reports. The bouts will likely be carried on Showtime, which is Strikeforce's usual premium TV partner.
Although EA Sports' involvement in the bout itself isn't confirmed, it and Strikeforce have cross-promoted a fight night before, but it didn't go so well. EA Sports planned to live-stream a fight on the undercard of late January event but ran into technical difficulties.
At minimum we can expect an E3 blitz on EA Sports MMA as the title tries to elbow into a market dominated by the UFC and publisher THQ.
