Marvel has, at long last, released its first proper trailer for Avengers: Doomsday, packed with clips from the movie and showing off a vast range of the heroes who will be appearing on December 18, 2026, when the film reaches theaters.
There’s no wasting time here. We begin with a dusty sign for Xavier’s School for Gifted Children, and Patrick Stewart as Professor X, to emphasize that yes, this is very much the arrival of the X-Men into the MCU. Then with no further delay, it’s our first glimpse of Dr. Doom and his extra-pointy mask.
Then it’s straight on to the Fantastic Four, walking into the Avengers’ base with Thor, cutting straight to Ant-Man, Bucky, and the Falcon-y Captain America. Next shot has the Thunderbolts meeting Thor, Ant-Man and Cap, with the Fantastic Four in the back of the room…This is all to prove that Doomsday is a movie about everyone getting together.
Next we’re off to Wakanda in case you forgot about the folks there, we get our first glimpse of James Marsden’s return as Cyclops, and then see Shang-Chi fighting Channing Tatum’s Gambit, Loki at the TVA, Mystique turning into Yelena Belova, and Ian McKellen as an ancient Magneto. Then, after a bunch more encounters and a scene of Thor attempting to fight Doom, we finally see a beardy Chris Evans as the returning, original Captain America.
What we don’t see is Robert Downey Jr.’s face, and it’s going to be interesting to see how that all plays out when the movie finally arrives. Will there be a climactic moment of him de-masking, Darth Vader-like, to gasps from all around as a set-up for next year’s Avengers: Secret Wars? That’d be my guess. Only five months to go!
