There’s No Such Thing As A “Citizen Kane” Of Video Games (Yet)
It’s a term you’ve probably heard passed around quite a bit. The “Citizen Kane” of video games. But what exactly does it mean to be referred to as the “Citizen Kane” of anything? Why is Citizen Kane celebrated as the quintessential, best-film-ever, no-comparison trump card to everything in the movie world anyway? And can video…

Grand Theft Auto V‘s Map Versus Major Cities
We already know GTA V‘s map is pretty massive. But the meaning of that kind of adjective can be pretty difficult to gauge based on how you actually judge size metrics. As always, be prepared for spoilers of the land variety. If you don’t feel like checking out Grand Theft Auto V‘s map before the…

Conan O’Brien Is Unimpressed With The Voices In Diablo III
If you’ve ever imagined what’s going on in the heads of your Diablo III characters, it probably has something to do with killing and looting and questing. But not according to Conan’s imagination. Not his funniest work, but I continue to enjoy Conan’s increasing interest in video games.

How Sony Plans To Win The Entertainment War
It’s no secret that companies affiliated with video games want to extend the reach of their consoles. It’s not a bad idea either. Be a gamer’s one stop shop for all of their media needs and they’ll never leave their console’s side. They’ll use your handhelds and mobile applications and whatever the hell else you…

Ubisoft’s Got A Ton Of Interesting New Games Coming Out
The Internet let it slip early, but Ubisoft is working on a ton of games for both the near and not-so-near future. Like, more games than we knew of just before last week. And what do you know, Kirk Hamilton has seen and reported on a bunch of those for us already. You can read…

New Call of Duty Trailer Starts Off In Outer Space
In the latest single player campaign trailer released today from Activision and Infinity Ward, Call of Duty takes you into the sky. Like, way, way into the sky. The entire intro of this latest trailer takes place in space, which isn’t the typical grey and brown terrain we’re all too familiar with. And, of course,…

Every Game Coming Out Between The PS4 And Xbox One
PlayStation 4: November 15. Xbox One: November 22. But when do the games come out? And don’t forget that they’re still making games for the Xbox 360 and PS3, which we will soon have to refer to as the “old consoles” (can you imagine?). In the one-week span that we’ll be getting Sony and Microsoft’s…

The Best of Kotaku, The Week of September 2
It’s officially September, which means Kotaku Selects is about to get overrun by Grand Theft Auto V articles, or at least that’s my prediction. So before that happens, go check out what else we have to say about games and other stuff. Can we still make 2DS jokes? It’s not too late, is it? I…

Fairy Tales Aren’t All Sugar And Sunshine In The Wolf Among Us
What if fairy tales were real? What if wolves and demons and talking mice walked right up to the counter at the grocery store and swiped their milk across the scanners just like you do? What if your jerk neighbor who screams like a boar every time he fights with his wife actually was a…

Dying Light‘s Nighttime Zombie Chase Almost Gave Me A Heart Attack
There are precisely one billionty video games out there that ask you to imagine what it would be like to survive the zombie apocalypse. But it’s rare to find one that makes the setting feel like anything more than just morbid fun or creepy explorations. It’s hard to inspire genuine, adrenaline-rushing fear. The kind of…

In Case You Forgot, The Last of Us Is A Damn Good Game
You could probably show me a 30 second clip of any part of The Last of Us and I’d be able to remember all the good (or horrific?) times I had with it. The talented Luke Ritson, who composes alternative trailers for video games, strung together these select clips for a summary of Naughty Dog’s…
