Bungie is delaying Destiny 2‘s “prestige” raid difficulty to next week. That’s due to an exploit that “causes the encounters to be stripped of their intended challenge,” which is almost certainly a reference to the despawning trick that made the rounds last week. The prestige raid will now launch on October 18 at 10AM Pacific.
By just about any metric, the Nintendo Switch is off to a good start. But what might be down the line for Nintendo’s new flagship console? We talked it through on this week’s episode of Kotaku Splitscreen Jason and I start off talking about a few games we’ve been playing including Cuphead, Danganronpa V3, Golf…
Video games are very good at teaching, even if they have to repeat the lesson over and over. Sometimes the lesson is “don’t fall into that bottomless pit.” Other times it’s “she’s just not that into you.” This post originally ran on 3/07/2016. I’m bumping it up with minor edits because Stardew Valley just came…
The Iron Banner will make its Destiny 2 debut next Tuesday, along with the “prestige” version of the raid. Iron Banner won’t take power levels into account and will reward tokens for Iron Banner engrams. The prestige raid will be at power level 300 with “minimal” mechanical changes. More info here
Remember when Destiny 1 players figured out that you could easily beat a raid boss by pulling your LAN cable? Remember how hilarious it was, and how hollow you felt afterward? If you want to feel that way again, you’re in luck. Destiny 2 raid spoilers follow! Over on the Destiny subreddit, user 07yourdesires has…
Dead Orbit has won Destiny 2‘s first Faction Rally event. Congratulations, you bunch of gothy space Moanas. Now the rest of us can blow all our glimmer on a mediocre scout rifle.
I’m playing a lot less Destiny 2 than I was a week ago. I sense I’m not alone in that. That’s because despite—and occasionally because of—all the ways Destiny 2 has improved upon its predecessor, the game is struggling to balance between people who wish they could play it forever and those who worry they…
This week is Destiny 2’s first-ever Faction Rally, where players pledge to one of three factions in order to win guns and glory. But what are Destiny 2’s factions all about, and what does it mean to pledge to one ? The Dead Orbit, Future War Cult, and New Monarchy factions have been around since the…
I hate my PlayStation Network ID so much. I realize I have no one to blame for this but myself. When I got a PS3 back in late 2009, I could’ve chosen any online handle I wanted. I could’ve gone with something easy to pronounce, or clever—I could’ve used some riff on my name, or…
Bungie’s shared some new info on next week’s Destiny 2 “Faction Rally.” Looks like about what we predicted on today’s spoilercast—you pledge a faction and do PvE and PvP challenges to earn points. Whichever faction wins sells a gun to everyone, and people pledging that faction get a discount. Faction. Faction. If you say it…
There are a bunch of interesting weapons in Destiny 2. Auto rifles, rocket launchers, swords, and weirdo reverse-tractor beams. But which guns are best? Here’s our list of the top five. 5. MIDA Multi-Tool The exotic scout rifle MIDA Multi-Tool is pretty easy to get. It probably has the least stringent requirements of any of…
As I struggle to fall asleep after a night of Destiny 2, the game keeps running through my mind. It’s like getting a song stuck in my head: I see the flash of combat and feel the rumbling controller in my hand. But I rarely hear the sounds of battle. Instead, I hear voices. They…
If you blew through Destiny 2’s story and jumped immediately into the raid, you might feel like you skipped a chapter explaining what’s going on. Turns out there’s some backstory and an optional sidequest that bridge the gap. On Wednesday, a ship the size of a planet appeared over Nessus. It marked the arrival of…
Destiny 2 director Luke Smith just announced via Twitter that Wednesday’s raid will have a power range of 260-280. Looks like those of us who worked our way past 280 over the weekend are gonna be juuuuust fine.
Think Destiny 2 is a little too easy? Good news: The quest for the Rat King sidearm is just the kind of extreme challenge you might be looking for. Destiny 2 players will occasionally receive multi-step quests that, if they can finish them, will each reward you with an exotic weapon. In the first Destiny,…
For the most part, Destiny 2 makes it easier to level up than its predecessor did. If you’re rushing to raise your Power level to prepare for next week’s raid, however, you’ll want to understand how legendary mods can help you climb faster. Destiny 2 works similarly to Destiny in terms of its overall leveling…
Destiny 2 has been out for a few days, and we’ve played enough to form some general impressions. Join me and Jason for a special episode of Kotaku Splitscreen that’s all about Bungie’s big sequel. Listen here: We don’t spoil anything from the story, other than to say that you should really play through the…
Destiny 2 doesn’t let players carry over any of the gear or progress they earned in the first game. It’s a bitter pill, perhaps, but it goes down smoother thanks to the lovely way Bungie acknowledges those of us who’ve been there from the start. Spoilers! When you start up Destiny 2 after having played…
So you want to play Destiny 2 but are a little foggy about the first game? No worries, I got you. If you’re new to the series and want to catch up on what happened over the last three years, this article is for you. Likewise if you’ve got a friend you want to get…
As of Sunday afternoon, the SNES Classic at Nintendo’s PAX booth remains safely behind glass. Note that it has once more been rearranged compared with yesterday and Friday, which raises further questions about the ease with which the case can be opened. We will continue to monitor the situation as it develops.
