OpinionImpressionsA Bullet Hell Set In Hell That’s Heaven To Play
The first time I saw Hell Is Other Demons was through a lovely gameplay GIF circulating on Twitter. It looked squishy and lo-fi, oozing with thick colors. I hoped the rest of the game would live up to its bold aesthetic. Now Hell Is Other Demons is out, and I can’t stop playing it. Out…

Designer Re-Imagines Google’s Stadia Controller In Whimsical Mockup
I can imagine what the responses would have been if Google had unveiled this as the controller for its new video game streaming platform back when it was announced at GDC. No d-pad? No way! I can’t help but appreciate designer Daniel Cheung’s experimental take on the future of gaming peripherals. Prior to GDC, there…

With Anthem currently in a holding pattern as players wait for BioWare to add more content, its community has taken to dressing up like characters from other video games, comic books, and movies to help pass the time. PlayStation Is Really Bad At Suggesting New PSN Names
Yesterday, Sony announced PlayStation Network name changes were officially ready for primetime. While a lot of people might have crappy user names they want to get rid of, they might not be sure what to replace them with. Fortunately, PlayStation provides suggestions. Most are terrible. Some are secretly amazing. For some people, a new PSN…

CultureKotaku Game DiaryOverwhelm Is A Tough Game That Still Feels Like It’s Rooting For Me
I am not a glutton for punishment in games. I don’t usually enjoy dying over and over again until some mercurial mix of skill, experience, and luck finally combines to see me through to the next level. But I revel in the moments just before failure occurs, when I’m fighting for my life and the…

OpinionImpressionsPathway Is An Indiana Jones-Inspired Tactics Game That’s Hard To Put Down
The year is 1936. Nazis are sweeping through North Africa and the Middle East excavating tombs and pillaging archaeological dig sites for mysterious artifacts. The only way to stop them is through a choose-your-own-adventure-style strategy game where death comes swiftly and often. While upcoming game Pathway doesn’t nail things perfectly, its juicy pixel animations and…

Trine 4‘s Developers Want To Take The Series Back To What Worked
The first time I played Trine, which came out in 2009, I found its combination of high-fantasy, 2D side-scrolling, and co-op puzzle solving to be such a perfect blend that I was surprised I hadn’t already played a dozen other games like it. Even since the release of Trine, there haven’t been many games like…

Charizard may be the final evolution of one of the strongest Pokemon starters of all time, but in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate he’s kind of shit. YouTuber Takes Beautiful Walks Across Huge Video Games
Open world games keep getting bigger and bigger, but the time we have to thoroughly explore them is limited. Most players will never see all the beautiful things a game has to offer, but a time-lapse walkabout across the entire map can offer a slightly blurry glimpse. As spotted by Eurogamer, Gaming YouTuber Enigma recently…

Late last week Bethesda announced a new item would be coming to the game soon: repair kits. Rather than waste resources repairing weapons and armor, players will be able to use these kits instead. OpinionImpressionsBloodstained: Ritual Of The Night Doesn’t Feel Quite Right In Its Latest Demo
While at PAX East I finally had the opportunity to try Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. What I played left me intrigued but ultimately underwhelmed. Of all the Castlevania-inspired games due out this year, like Cyber Shadow and upcoming DLC for The Messenger, I’m now less excited about the one actually coming from one of…
