One last hurrah. She wrote most of this for E3 but then the game never showed. Read more

Beyond MK Trilogy etc., Mischief Makers and Bakuretsu Muteki Bangaioh (both by Treasure) were two that relied on it. Read more

Yeah, it hurts a little knowing some of our planet’s dwindling resources are now being used to make more meh-tier 3-button Genesis controllers. Whereas the 6-button is a GOAT contender. Read more

Same! That’s the $64,000 question. Or at least the $50 question. Hopefully they engineered a more durable mechanism without messing up the feel of the stick. Read more

Close. Here’s how the sausage is made: When there’s a reasonable chance a certain game or announcement will be made at an event, we may choose to write a basic “shell” post beforehand with background info, etc. Such was the case here. Then if the announcement happens, this lets us get a solid post up quickly, and then Read more

Wonder why. sv_gravity definitely works in the new Quake remaster. I halved it (to 400) and everything was instantly a lot more floaty. Read more

Nope, you had it right originally. That’s Q2DM1 The Edge, from Quake II. This remaster has a port of it as DM7.  Read more

That’s what kept us all playing for years rather than the fairly incoherent, over-and-done single-player. Quake single-player Read more

Oh no no no of course FPSes are alive and well. I meant Arena FPSes specifically. That’s the sub-genre that’s now used to describe games like Quake and Unreal Tournament. They died commercially by the mid-late 2000s. Numerous up-and-coming indies have tried to revive the genre since then, but to no avail so far. (Split Read more

Hm, I disagree. Quake is one of the most important games to me, personally, but its genre is long dead and unlike Doom it’s not super fun in single-player / quite as easy to mod for. And its multiplayer is the very definition of hardcore / hard to approach, even just in getting set up. Read more

I did! I didn’t love the direction of the English dub, but I’ll tell you why I used it: because the game doesn’t give subtitles to any of the incidental dialogue, such as when you pass by NPCs. Read more

I think I was fine through the first round of class updates. I liked having the choice between Backburner and regular flamethrower for my beloved Pyro. My Scout had a few fun gun choices too. I have “melee Demoman” frozen in my mind as the point where I was like, I’m not into this anymore. Read more
