Atari 2600 Emulator Built for iPhone; App to Follow?

The folks behind an officially licensed Commodore 64 emulator on the iPhone are also working on an Atari 2600 emulators for the device, meaning more plink-plonk classics from the early 1980s could be on the way to you.

That's a tech demonstration of Space Invaders, Berzerk and Frogger for the 2600, played over virtual controls on the multitouch screen. Manomio, the firm behind the C64 emulator (made free for download earlier this month) are working on this and an Amiga 500 emulator. While Apple usually cocks an eyebrow at emulators, Manomio has succeeded at getting one approved.

Getting Atari's consent on these will be a different story, especially if it wants its own app on the device. Or it could just license its games over and not have to worry about coding such a thing.
