Assassin's Creed Has a Board Game; It Comes Out in Two Weeks

The next Assassin's Creed game releases on Feb. 26. Wait, what? Yeah, it's a board game; something called Assassin's Creed: Arena.

The game is made by Cryptozoic Entertainment, who have handled board games for the Adventure Time and The Walking Dead licenses. It's billed as "a strategic game of cat-and-mouse that pits 2-4 players against each other in a race for kills."

Cards air-assassinating one another is not a particularly visceral (the most important word in gaming!) experience, so Cryptozoic had to figure out some ways to make it challenging. Basically, when it's a player's turn, he'll draw an "event card" that sets out the next objective. Often it involves killing someone. From there, a player gets a number of spaces he may move in a turn, plus three options, move, hide or attack. Crossing the line of sight of a guard (his forward facing path) causes a player to sacrifice a card, which serve as health bars.
