My parents did would not buy me a PlayStation and they issued a standing "No More Games" order on the relatives. Quite vexed I set in mind an epic plan.
First I bought a rake and an old push lawnmower from a yardsale. Next I woke up super early and offered to mow lawns for half of what all the neigborhood kids were offering. This was a navy housing neighborhood so there were a lot of yards. After a week of backbreaking labor I had enough for the console but realized I needed to find more money for games.
Since I put all the other kids out of business with my uncanny ability to wake up earlier than them and price them out of business, I was able to "hire" them to work for me. They cut the lawns and gave me a 25% cut for managing the client list.
With my big wad of cash in hand I woke up early on a Saturday and pretended to go out mowing. Instead I was actually riding my bike the 10 miles to walmart. I bought the PS, Red Alert, and Wipeout. By the time my parents realized what I did I was sitting in my room, stack of games, pile of money totally relaxed. When I explained it all to my father he nodded and told me ,"You understand the value of a dollar now" and then never made any weird restrictions on what I could have again
