Sony will hold a bigger than usual PlayStation gaming showcase on June 2, the company announced on Wednesday. While Marvel’s Wolverine will headline the event, we’ll no doubt get updates and new reveals on a bunch of other upcoming PS5 games as well. The whole thing will run an hour long.
“To kick things off, youāll get a closer look atĀ Marvelās Wolverine. Insomniac Games will share more from its upcoming third-person action-adventure game showing off Loganās brutal and relentless combat along with some new details,” Sony wrote in a new post over on the PlayStation blog. “This all-new take on the comic book legend launches on PS5 September 15.”
The State of Play will air live on Tuesday, June 2 at 5:00pm ET onĀ YouTubeĀ andĀ Twitch. Also you can buy tickets to watch it at the Alamo Drafthouse in select cities if, uh, that’s your thing.
One of the bigger questions around the showcase is whether we’ll finally get confirmation of the new God of War game that Santa Monica Studio is reportedly working on. While fans suspected the team might be working on a new franchise, leaker NateTheHate claimed the studio’s latest project is set in the same world as the existing God of War series, but would be a spin-off following Faye rather than Kratos. Voice actor Christopher Judge previously teased that more news about an upcoming project would be coming this summer.
Sony’s other upcoming projects include a God of War remake trilogy as well as Naughty Dog’s Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, which we still haven’t heard much about. Guerrilla Games, meanwhile, is working on a multiplayer Horizon spin-off called Horizon Hunters Gathering. There was also recently a rumor about PlayStation looking to revive older franchises, though it’s unclear if that means we’re getting a new Ape Escape at some point or just better access to Sony’s existing library of classics.
But PlayStation showcases are as much about third-party reveals as anything else, and unless we get it in the next couple of weeks, all eyes will be on the lookout for a new Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer. Sony reportedly has a marketing deal with Rockstar Games and it’s been a while since we’ve heard anything new about this year’s biggest blockbuster.
