Marvel and Activision today unveiled a new game coming to consoles next fall that casts players as new mutant recruits.

The two companies are being pretty tight-lipped about X-Men Destiny, saying only that it will feature a "branching storyline that features a deep element of choice and gives players ultimate control of their destiny."

It doesn't sound like the game will have players controlling the New Mutants, but rather cast them as new mutants, all lowercase.

The game will be shown off at Activision's New York Comic-Con booth starting Friday and running through Sunday. Marvel will also be talking more about the original storyline for the game, which was written by X-Men: Legacy writer Mike Carey, during the Marvel Games Panel on Saturday, October 9, at 10:45 a.m. in Room 1A06.

At some point today the game's official website is live.

Ugh. Can't a less TERRIBLE publisher get the Marvel license any time soon? It's such a shame, I vastly prefer Marvel over DC in terms of universes, yet all the Marvel games save for MvC have to come out of a cesspit like Activision.

After the vomitous taste Ultimate Alliance 2 left in my mouth (and I got the damn game for free, so that's how frustrating it was), they're gonna need to pull out all the stops and essentially just not BE Activision for this one to be any good.
