Star Wars Outlaws And Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Don’t Work With The Latest Windows Update At The Worst Possible Time

Star Wars Outlaws finally came to Steam last week. Unfortunately, there’s also an issue with the latest version of Windows that makes it so the sci-fi open-world adventure and other Ubisoft games don’t work. Microsoft has acknowledged the issue and is pausing the update in the meantime.

“After installing Windows 11, version 24H2, you might encounter issues with some Ubisoft games,” reads a warning on Microsoft’s website. “These games might become unresponsive while starting, loading or during active gameplay. In some cases, users might receive a black screen.” It lists the following games as “incompatible with the newest update.”

If you’re detecting a pattern there, it’s that these are all open-world Ubisoft games and some of the publisher’s most popular releases in recent years. Microsoft issued a compatibility hold to prevent the update from going out to any PCs with the above games installed on it, and says it’s working with Ubisoft “on a resolution.”

In the meantime, Ubisoft has released its own patch for Star Wars Outlaws to try and mitigate the issues for anyone who already has the latest Windows 11 update installed. “Also, we have just deployed a temporary hotfix (v1.4.1) for players who were experiencing issues playing on Windows 11 24H2,” the patch notes read. “Please note that you may experience some performance issues while we work on a more permanent fix.”

It’s not clear how many players are actually impacted by problem. The Windows update began rolling out earlier this month, and prior to November 21, Star Wars Outlaws was only available through Ubisoft’s proprietary Ubisoft+ launcher. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, on the other hand, likely has millions of PC players who could potentially face issues if they try to boot the game up in the near future.
