BAFTA! That's the British Academy of Film and Television Arts to the rest of you not on an acronym basis with the academy. And they're giving the creator of Donkey Kong and Super Mario Bros. fellowship props.
The BAFTA's fellowship award is "the highest accolade the Academy can bestow on an individual for their creative work," according to chairman David Parfitt, and will put Miyamoto on the same level as folks like Alfred Hitchcock and Stanley Kubrick. At least in terms of BAFTA recognition. Despite that esteemed company, Mr. Miyamoto is receiving the honor humbly.
"I am very grateful to be able to receive such an honourable award from the British Academy," Miyamoto said. "Our video games cannot be created by one person. Since Donkey Kong until the most recent New Super Mario Bros Wii, I have been working closely with a number of friends for three decades in order to develop fun and enjoyable games."
