When Mars Declared Independence From Britain

Upcoming title Jamestown has very little to do with the early colonization of North America, and everything to do with four-player co-op on 17th-century British colonial Mars.

Yup, it's the 1600s and Britain has taken possession of the planet Mars. Sounds like an excuse to use muskets against Martians, but instead, Jamestown is a retro-themed shmup (in this case a vertical shooter), which aside from some glorious pixellated graphics also boasts four-player co-operative play, a rarity in the genre.

It's being worked on by a three-man team in Philadelphia, Final Form, and it's hoped the game will be released on PC sometime next year, with "with other platforms to follow".

I knew I slept a lot in school, but jeez. I thought the 17th century was 1700's.
