Blizzard’s critically panned remaster of beloved RTS Warcraft 3, Warcraft 3: Reforged, is getting a surprise major update today including a brand new campaign starring multiple beloved Warcraft characters, alongside a graphics overhaul and other new features.
The new campaign is called Forsaken Kingdom and follows one of the most famous events in Warcraft history: Arthas’ sacking of Lordaeron, and the aftermath. Both Arthas and Sylvanas will play key roles in this campaign, and we’ll see familiar groups and locations including the Undercity, the Scarlet Crusade, and Naxxramus. The campaign will include over 30 hours of gameplay, a new neutral hero in the Forsaken Paladin, world editor improvements and feature tweaks, and enhanced graphics.
Starting after opening ceremonies, all players will get access to a free major update to Reforged’s graphics and features. While this bit is free for everyone, the actual new campaign will need to be purchased and can be either a standalone buy or as part of a bundle.
Warcraft 3: Reforged was launched in 2020 as a full remake of the original Warcraft 3, but it didn’t go over well. At launch, it was full of bugs, was missing features from the original game, and had all sorts of technical adjustments that didn’t go over well with long-time fans. Blizzard has worked to address some of those concerns since, but it’s since seemed that Blizzard was likely just going to move on from it, making this news quite the surprise.
