Due to an unfortunate confluence of events, including social media algorithms rewarding the dumbest takes around, a very small but very loud and obnoxious contingent of people who claim to love video games has become obsessed with complaining about every female video game character not looking hot enough. The epidemic of stupid has gotten so bad, even Vincent D’Onofrio felt compelled to tell these people to shut up.
God Of War Laufey is the latest target of this gooner conspiracy, and specifically its protagonist, Faye, who is played by Deborah Ann Woll. “Gamers Sony’s Santa Monica Studio has made their stance clear: They choose feminism over their jobs They would rather go bankrupt than give you an ounce of female attractiveness,” wrote the X account Geralt of Goonia, a CIA psyop if ever there was one. “Now it falls upon you Gamers to give them what they want Boycott God of War Laufey.”
Of all the people one might expect to show up in Geralt of Goonia’s mentions, it turned out to be none other than Woll’s Daredevil costar, D’Onofrio, who came to the game’s defense. “Not that you asked, but… In no way do i agree with you,” he wrote back. “Deborah is beautiful and extremely talented. She is as smart as whip and a complete nerd. Also incredibly kind. How perfect she is! And a good friend. I am a fan of God of War. I for one cannot wait to play the new game with my son.”
Geralt of Goonia took that as an invitation to try to educate Mr. D’Onofrio on the horrors of #metoo destroying the Dead or Alive franchise. “This is not a conspiracy theory btw, it is a fact,” the account retorted, alongside a screencap of an unsubstantiated conspiracy theory.
But D’Onofrio, having stuck up for his costar, knew better than to keep engaging. Someone else in the thread said the only thing that still needed to be said: “Buddy got bodied by Kingpin.”
