Over a decade after the original was released, we’re finally getting a sequel to Until Dawn. This one’s being made internally at PlayStation, by Firesprite and Dispatch‘s Ad Hoc, and it’s planned for January 28, 2027, with pre-orders coming on September 10.
Until Dawn 2 seems to take place primarily around a ghost hunting YouTube show called Dead True with a bunch of young, content creator protagonists. From the PlayStation blog, we’ve learned that the group starts by exploring a place called Blackwood Sanitorium in the snowy mountains (ah, Blackwood), then later visits HorrorCon, where they learn about a terrible supernatural incident. This leads them to visit a South Pacific Island where the usual Until Dawn nonsense goes on. It seems like it will be gruesome, and that people (and possibly a chicken) will die.
Like its predecessor, Until Dawn 2 will ask players to make choices and respond to situations all the different characters are thrown into, with player choice impacting the outcome of the story and who lives and who dies. In Until Dawn, there were ways to guide the story so that all characters lived, or all died, or all sorts of other combinations occurred by the end. Until Dawn had a strict autosave so that players would never “Game Over” but would have to live with the consequences of their actions or inactions, and we can assume Until Dawn 2 will have something of the same.
