Dusting off its corporate crystal ball (The UbiBall®), publisher Ubisoft has predicted that in just two years time, half of all games will be capable of straining your eyes by appearing in 3D. Or, as they'll call it, ThreeDee™.
The company made the claim earlier today during an investor's conference call.
"We will see more and more product coming in 3D on 360 and PS3 but also on portable machines. We can count on substantial grown in the 3D market just because it's more immersive, so it will be a good way for the industry to give even more emotion to the gamers".
"I think next year we should see maybe 15-20% of games will be 3D on next-gen consoles ... and the following year will be at least 50% of the games."
Note this means games will be capable of being shown in 3D, not somehow exclusive to the technology. It's reasonably easy to code for, provided you work with the technology from the beginning of development. How many of you will have 3D-capable TV sets by then, however, is another matter.

DISCUSSION
I can already play all my games with head-splitting eye-raping 3D action thanks to my GTX 260. Enjoy spending $4000 on a new 3D-capable HDTV while I spend $600 on an nVidia 3D Vision kit (which includes a new monitor and glasses setup).
Investment for a console user:
HDTV that you bought 2 years ago and won't be using anymore: $2000
New 3D HDTV: $4000
XBOX 360: $200
Total: $6200
Investment for PC user:
Kickass top-of-the-line rig: $2000
Widescreen LCD you bought 2 years ago: $300
NVIDIA 3D Vision Kit: $598
Total: $2898
PCs aren't so expensive after all, eh?
