Ubisoft: Half Of All Games To Be 3D In Two Years

Dusting off its corporate crystal ball (The UbiBall®), publisher Ubisoft has predicted that in just two years time, half of all games will be capable of straining your eyes by appearing in 3D. Or, as they'll call it, ThreeDee™.

The company made the claim earlier today during an investor's conference call.

"We will see more and more product coming in 3D on 360 and PS3 but also on portable machines. We can count on substantial grown in the 3D market just because it's more immersive, so it will be a good way for the industry to give even more emotion to the gamers".

"I think next year we should see maybe 15-20% of games will be 3D on next-gen consoles ... and the following year will be at least 50% of the games."

Note this means games will be capable of being shown in 3D, not somehow exclusive to the technology. It's reasonably easy to code for, provided you work with the technology from the beginning of development. How many of you will have 3D-capable TV sets by then, however, is another matter.
