Itās been about four years since the last Tony Hawkās Pro Skater launched. Since then, Activision has closed up the studio behind the last THPS and seemed uninterested in making more. But legendary skateboarder Tony Hawk himself has confirmed heās working with the publisher again on āsomethingā that THPS fans will āappreciate.ā Hmmm!
Updated: 09/30/2024, 12:40 p.m. ET: On September 29,Tony Hawk posted a message on Instagram about the 25-year anniversary of Tony Hawkās Pro Skater and thanked everyone who played the games. He ended the message with a tease confirming that the Tony Hawk Pro Skater series has a future.
Combined with his comments earlier this month about ātalking to Activisionā again and working with the publisher on something, it appears that a new Tony Hawk game is in the works.
Hereās the full statement Tony Hawk posted on Instagram:
The original Tony Hawkās Pro Skater was released exactly 25 years ago today. My intention and expectation for the game was mostly for the enjoyment of skateboarders. I had no idea it would transcend a niche market to become a massive success and – as some have argued – change the course of skateboardingās popularity (and possibly even skate trick evolution).
It definitely changed the course of my life, and is a big reason that I get to ride my skateboard for a living to this very day. And most of the featured characters are still out there ripping and representing skateboardingās diversity in the best ways possible. Seen here is a snippet of our motion capture session during the development phase.
I poured myself into every aspect of this project because I believed we were creating something exceptional, and I am immensely proud of the series that followedā¦ and their soundtracks. Thanks to Activision, Neversoft (RIP) and all of you that played THPS in those formative years.
Iām not supposed to tease anything else about the future of the series, but there will be a future.

The last Tony Hawk game was 2020’s Tony Hawkās Pro Skater 1+2, which was a well-received remake of the first two games in the series. A lot of people, myself included, were excited about a potential follow-up that would remake THPS3 and THPS4. However, that never happened, even though Hawk says it was planned at one point. Activision reportedly was more interested in Call of Duty than skateboarding. But as the 25-year anniversary of Pro Skater grows closer, Hawk confirmed something THPS-related is coming.
During an interview with Mythical Kitchen, Tony Hawk was asked about the future of the franchise. He said something was in the works, but couldnāt share any details.
āI wish I could tell you more,ā said Hawk. āBut I can tell you that Iāve been talking to Activision again, which is insanely exciting. Weāre working on something. This is the first time Iāve said that publicly.ā
When asked if the project would involve contact lenses that would let you play Pro Skater, Hawk confirmed āit wonāt be that.ā So at least we know what it wonāt be and it wonāt be a VR skating game powered by contact lenses. Cool.
āBut I think it will be something that fans will truly appreciate,ā said Hawk.
Does that mean someone at Activision finally realized that canceling THPS 3+4 was a silly idea? Maybe. Or perhaps Tony Hawkās Underground is due for a remake? Or maybe something brand new! That would also be cool, too.
Unrelated to the future of Tony Hawkās Pro Skater, the famous skateboarder shared a story of a mom walking up to him in Las Vegas and proclaiming:
āāHey, my son thinks youāre named after the video game!ā Tony Hawk simply replied: āThat works me.ā
