Good point. My HDTV scales very well at all supported resolutions. I often forget that some LCDs only look good at native resolution. But the point stands.

Would you say the multiplatform releases of MGS last gen follow that formula? How about GTAIV?
Both games were pretty well received by fans/critics and I don't recall talk of either game losing money.
My point is simply that the franchise stands to benefit both financially, and from an exposure/userbase perspective if it were released on more than one platform (even if after the fact). Particularly in view of the fact that the PS3 install base is relatively small at this point. As good as people seem to think the game is, I have to think it would stand to benefit if more people had a chance to play it. GTAIV is a great example of this. I'm not a big fan of the game, but I think it goes without saying that the game was a massive success on two separate and significantly different-architecturally systems.
