A memorable boss fight is not just about gameplay or battle themes—slaying zombies can get tedious after a while, no matter how well-made the fight is. Luckily developers never forget to ensure that we encounter the most ridiculous-looking (probably in a good way!) and nonsensical bosses from time to time.

Gonna put my word in for Lavos' final form. This freak crash-lands on earth and spends aeons directing evolution so it can harvest the best DNA for itself before exterminating all life on the surface. And he's so powerful he can tear holes in space-time and use some insanely powerful magic.

And then there's the fight itself. First you defeat his huge outer shell, then fight a giant robot at the core, and when that explodes this thing emerges and sprouts a pair of bits that can heal and revive any other part. And when the fight begins he takes everyone into a time warp, where the era in the background determines what kind of attacks he's going to use (when you see the prehistoric replenish everyone's hp!).

And then there's his scream. That sound terrified me the first time I heard it. Lavos was truly a creature to dread.
