Streaming video games live via the internet is a relatively new thing, but video games have been around for hundreds (slight exaggeration) of years. Hyperkin's Android-powered RetroN 5 console plays games from ten older consoles. How? Watch.
Before I begin, I must note that I have been planning this stream all week, so when I woke up this morning and notice our reader-run site had been streaming from the RetroN last night, I was a little surprised. I might have thrown things and stomped.
Then I realized there are thousands of older games out there, and the chances of overlap were slim, so I decided to stick with it, instead of falling on my backup plan. You do not want to know what my backup plan is.
So far I've really enjoyed my time with the RetroN 5. I know a lot of people gave it guff for essentially being an Android emulator platform with physical cartridge interfaces, but I like the idea of being able to apply filters and other settings to my classic games without feeling like a dirty pirate. Plus it's HDMI, so I can stream from it without it being a major hassle.
I'm not a big fan of the wireless controller, but that's why it has pairs of NES, SNES and Genesis controller ports.
The RetroN 5 plays games from the following systems: NES, SNES, Famicon, Super Famicom,Sega Genesis, Sega Master System, Game Boy, Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advance. How well does it play them? Watch!
Update: Stream is over, check out the archive below!
