Retro City Rampage, the top-down Grand Theft Auto-looking game that pays homage to old-school video games when it's not having some fun at their expense, is nearly done. At last.
RCR's lead creator, Brian Provinciano, showed me a new bit of the game this past weekend at the Penny Arcade Expo. He highlighted the in-game skateboard while zipping through a PG-rated "smut peddler" riff on the classic game Paperboy.
We've been anticipating this game for a while, first covering it as an upcoming WiiWare game that was slated for a late 2010 launch. We saw its homage to the NES Zapper a year go. We showed you a full 10 minutes of the game.
Finally, it's coming soon for real. Provinciano says it will be out at the end of the year or early next as a downloadable game on the Xbox 360.
He also says you can redeem these codes for RCR avatar gear:

And what of the WiiWare version? It wil be out a few months after that, which I think makes it the Wii game that is furthest out in the release timeline of that system's announced games. Take that, Zelda.
