The New Mortal Kombat Brings Back The Jax

The latest addition to the Mortal Kombat line-up of "kombatants" is an old favorite. Jax, the cybernetically armed special forces operative who always has brain matter under his fingernails, will return.

Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon confirmed the inclusion of Jax in last night's episode of GameTrailers TV, calling him "bigger, more bad-ass then ever" and armed with "an insane fatality." The fighter first appeared in Mortal Kombat II. First footage of Jax in action shows off familiar moves, like his ground pound and grabs, plus a stage set in a subway that has an environment fatality that must be seen to fully appreciate.

One of Jax's finishing moves, Boon says, is a combination of his MKII fatalities—one, a head-popping clap, the other an arm-ripping death sentence. We're hoping Boon mixed up the order in his description of how those combine, because we'd much rather see Jax rip Johnny Cage's arms off, then crush his skull with his own dismembered limbs.

Jax joins Cyrax, Johnny Cage, Kitana, Kung Lao, Mileena, Nightwolf, Raiden, Reptile, Scorpion, Sektor, Shao Kahn, and Sub-Zero in the list of confirmed characters making the leap to 2011's Mortal Kombat.
