The MLG (Major League Gaming) Championship in Anaheim is going on all weekend long. You can watch people playing Call of Duty: Ghosts, Super Smash Bros. Melee, StarCraft II and Injustice: Gods Among Us much better than you right here.
Kotaku needs to do an article covering what an unmitigated disaster this has been for Injustice. I have been watching/following grassroots tournaments for fighting games since about 2011 and this so called "professional event" has been the single most disorganized catastrophe I have ever seen in the tournament scene.
Here's some highlights:
-Things started 2 hours late then what was expected.
-There was literally a commercial break between every single match that happened, and the "breaks" lasted upwards of 20 minutes to an hour in some cases. No, I am not exaggerating. I am not exaggerating. Some players waited something crazy like 12 hours to play 3 matches.
-Players have spoken out on twitter about how they were treated like cattle and herded around with no respect and prevented from entering the play area to here their names called for matches *nor* allowed to even watch them. Supposedly this was a problem with the firecode, but its still inexcusable.
-Half of the top 8 matches were played *offstream* and we will never ever see them!
-Even with the stream station unoccupied they were telling players (some in marque matches) to play off stream.
-At one point they said on stream that the finals would be played on a different stream URL...and to go there....until they weren't and they just decided to switch back to the original stream meaning a ton of people missed some of the top 8 matches that were played.
That's not even everything that happened but its all I have time to write at the moment. Straight up, I was one of the people who was told how great an opportunity MLG was for the injustice/nrs scene and did my part to voice support for it being included, and after this event I will never watch/support/attend anything they are associated with unless they come out very soon with a public apology and an explanation for everything that took place.
This was absolutely unacceptable and exploitative in every sense of the word.
