The GamesCom trailer for Warner Bros.' The Lord of the Rings: War in the North fulfills the unwritten rule that every Lord of the Rings video game trailer end with a troll busting through a door.
While many Lord of the Rings games have featured completely troll-less trailers, it isn't a true Rings game until a giant roaring beast bursts through something, be it a door, a wall, or the flimsy cardboard of a child's play fort. It's also imperative that the roaring beast pause after doing so, standing in the hole it made and roaring some more, to give us the full effect.
With those rules in mind, every Kool-Aid man commercial ever made would suffice as a trailer for a Lord of the Rings video game. Video editing hobbyists, start your engines.
Lord of the Rings: War in the North is an action RPG from Snowblind Studios, due for release next year on the PlayStation 3, PC, and Xbox 360. Owen saw it at E3 and thought it looked nice. Hopefully we'll see it at GamesCom next week and concur.
