The Great Battlefield Crossover Experiment

With public interest in free-to-play shooter Battlefield Heroes at critical levels following EA's controversial changes to the game's pay structure, the publisher is trying to light a fire under the game with a Battlefield Bad Company crossover.

Starting March 16, there'll be a month-long "tribute" event in the PC shooter, which will see new items, weapons and outfits based on Battlefield Bad Company 2 released for Battlefield Heroes.

Of course, none of this will be free, so to try and entice lapsed players back into the game (or somehow attract new ones), EA will be offering $5 worth of in-game currency to anyone who bought Bad Company 2 new on PS3, 360 or PC. That offer will be good from March 16 to March 19.

What a shame. It brings back memories hearing that catchy theme song, but there's no way I'm going back to this game with the current bias towards "subscribing" players.
