The Final Fantasy XV Demo Will Be Very Limited

A few months ago, Square Enix announced that copies of Final Fantasy Type-0 HD will come with a demo for Final Fantasy XV. Today, they're backtracking a bit: turns out only some copies will actually come with the demo—the copies that are part of the first shipment.

So if you buy a later copy of Type-0 HD—which comes out in March for PS4 and Xbox One—you might not actually get access to the demo for the much-anticipated fifteenth Final Fantasy.

Says Square Enix in a blog post tonight (bolded emphasis mine):

First, as Tabata-san said in a recent episode of Square Enix Presents, this demo is exclusive to Final Fantasy Type-0 HD. We're never going to release it as a stand-alone piece down the line. Secondly, it's intended to be a special gift for those of you who purchase early — the demo will be limited to the "Day One" edition of the game, meaning that only the first shipment is going to have the demo in it. So if the demo is something you think you might like, we highly encourage you to pre-order or to be quick about getting to the store on launch day, March 17th, 2015.

In other words, they really, really want you to pre-order the game, and if you don't buy Final Fantasy Type-0 as soon as it comes out, you might never get to play FFXV before it launches in 2099.

Square's got more details on the $100 limited collector's edition of Type-0—which also comes with the demo—over at the PS Blog, so check it out if you're into that fancy collectable stuff.

Wow. First, Square trolls with classic FF7 ported to PS4. I thought losing FFXV as a Sony AND PS3 exclusive was an outrage to me, making the push to PS4 and XB1. But now they're making the demo this limited, encouraging those who want to play the demo to buy another remake?

Squenix, what the bloody hell are you up to? Why these weird decisions?
