Okay. I’m okay. The 2016 Emotional Games Awards has opened up submissions for games that evoke strong emotional rea . . . oh god. No, no—I can do this.

Happy place. Happy place. Imagine myself in a frozen forest. And go.

The Emotional Games Awards is now accepting submissions for consideration as nominees for its 2016 awards. They’re looking for games released over the past few years . . . and what glorious years they were. When I look back over the triumphs and joys of the last fifth of a decade my heart soars with sweet, sweet elation. I want to take the past two years by the hand and twirl about with them in a sunny field until we fall, exhausted smiles all ‘round.

Goodness. Where was I?

The Emotional Games Awards is looking for games that elicited strong emotional reactions in their players. Joy, sadness, disgust, anger, fear—did you guys see Inside Out? Oh my god that movie made me so sad. When the elephant guy did that thing? Oh man, so noble. To give of oneself so completely . . . oh man. Oh man.

The Emotional Games Awards is looking for submissions for games in the following categories:

  • BEST EMOTIONAL GAME
  • BEST EMOTIONAL ARTISTIC GAME ACHIEVEMENT
  • BEST EMOTIONAL GAME DESIGN
  • BEST EMOTIONAL VR GAME
  • BEST EMOTIONAL MOBILE & HANDHELD
  • BEST EMOTIONAL MULTIPLAYER GAME
  • BEST EMOTIONAL MUSIC
  • BEST EMOTIONAL INDIE GAME

Yeah, they used all bold caps in the official press release. I f***ing hate when they do that. Who the hell do they think they are, that their letters matter more than ours? GO TO HELL, EMOTIONAL GAMES AWARDS!

Whoa. Um, I apologize. Just pressed a button. I’m good now.

Based in France, the Emotional Games Awards is presided over by founder and jury president Erik Geslin, overseeing a panel that includes (pasted from the press release because I’m worthless . . . so very worthless) Marc Albinet (Ubisoft - Game Director of Assassin’s Creed Unity); Florent Aziosmanoff (co-founder of the Cube); Thierry Frey (ACM Siggraph); Vincent Martel (Frima - Executive Producer); Claire Noël (Past King Digital Entertainment - Actually Art Director) ; Sylvain Pellan (Past Ivory Tower - Actually Environment Artist AAA Game) ; and Nikolaus Roche-Kresse (Cinema In-Game Developer for Ubisoft).

Man, it must be so tough for them, having to play all of these emotional games, being buffeted by a storm of overwhelming feeling while trying to maintain critical detachment? Those people have it rough. So very rough. They must be very brave.

According to the rules, companies can submit games for consideration in up to four categories, with pricing as follows:

  • 1 to 2 games: 90 Euros per game and you’re got a great shot! Believe in yourself!
  • 3 to 5 games: 70 f***ing Euros per game, god dammit.
  • 6 games and over: 50 Euros per game but you’re not going to win, you just know it.

The 2016 Emotional Games Awards will be held on Friday, February 12. That’s my brother’s birthday. We hardly speak anymore, my brother and I. I miss him. We used to be so close.

Why doesn’t he love me anymore? WHAT DID I DO WRONG!?

Oh god.
