Minecraft: Story Mode is being turned into a 5-episode interactive Netflix series. Telltale confirmed that it will arrive on the streaming platform this fall and be similar to Stretch Armstrong: The Breakout, with occasional prompts to make choices for the characters. Telltale is also making a Stranger Things game.
In a crazy quick turnaround for Telltale Games, the second episode of Minecraft: Story Mode is available today. It’s usually several months in-between episodes! Game of Thrones, for example, had its last episode released in July, and the finale won’t arrive until next month.
The reveal of Minecraft: Story Mode was met with a lot of internet skepticism in 2014—could a narrative-driven take even work for such an open-ended exploration game? I’ve played through the first episode of the new series, and can say with confidence that yes, actually, a story fits Minecraft pretty damn well.
Telltale’s episodic Minecraft series will kick off on October 13, the company announced today. Based on the company’s previous releases, new episodes should roll out out every few months or so.
