Remember when Codemasters pissed off fans with a “new” Colin McRae Rally racing game? Well, it seems like they’re making up for it in a big way with DiRT Rally, a rally racer that looks excellent and, according to early reports, plays nicely too. It’s still in Early Access, but it’s come roaring out the gate.

Last week I reported on a Steam racing game, Colin McRae Rally, that seemed to be a remake of a classic from the '90s. Instead it turned out to be a port of a mobile game from last year. Fans were pissed, feeling misled. Now publisher Codemasters is offering refunds.

Colin McRae Rally is a classic (some would even say "legendary") racing game. So when gamers saw a game claiming to be a "remastered for HD" version of it pop up on Steam, they were ecstatic. Then they got an unpleasant surprise.

So this is what they were talking about yesterday. Codemasters' original rally sports simulator is now on iOS, looking as dapper as ever.
